Hi September, It's Good to See You
One of the best months of the year is finally here!
A short one today, vibers — just wanted to add some of my own little September love to the conversation.
Autumn is the best season of the year. We get Halloween, the colorful leaves dotting our trees and lining our sidewalks, apples hitting their peak, pumpkin everything is back… don’t mind me, just waxing poetic about my favorite season.
But September? She has always felt like “the beginning.”
Maybe it’s that “back to school” mindset that’s burned into our psyche for the first 72 Seasons of our lives, because to me, it’s always felt like a new year begins with September. August finally comes to a close and in my heart, so does summer. The smell of new school supplies (despite being out of school for literal decades) in the air and the fresh threads in our closets. The morning dew sprinkling in the rising sun and the electric buzzing of anticipation as we embark on the day. Before we know it, the cool morning air fades into a warm afternoon, the sun shines in the azure sky.
September ushers in Autumn, marking the beginning of the “‘ber months” — AKA, coziest season of the year. Fall will be officially underway in a couple of short weeks, and within a month, the trees will be burning bright with their oranges and reds. The cold air will start to pinch our cheeks. Ciders and spices will waft in the air. Our front porches will be decorated with blazing mums and pumpkins galore, enhancing the color of the season.
Sure, we will miss the warmer days, but we will revel in the coziness of the season — bundling up in warm hoodies and diving under a fleece blanket. Sighing happily, even though the days are shorter and chillier. Watching the Scream franchise or an the inevitable annual rewatch of Gilmore Girls. We’ll be reading our fave horror novels while cookies and breads bake in the oven.
Grab your PSL, apple cider, or chai latte — it’s time to savor the best season of the year. Even if the weather is still just a little too warm. I’m ready for it now, though.
Happy Fall, y’all.
